The trellis roses bud in stark relief
Against the foliage of the garden fence;
Entwined with vines of green grape-leaf
Between the morning glory's opulence.
The scent of flowers fill the afternoons
With lovely musk and aromatic hint
Of dank equatorial jungle blooms
And mellow tantalizing sage and mint,
I slowly lift my gaze aloft to see
Those love-filled eyes aglow upon your face,
And realize that no scent or sound can be
As sweet a thought as that of your embrace;
No sight as pleasant, and no rose can lift
My heart with such delight as your love gift.
