Critiques

I am going to make a special offer to anyone who will take it. On Pnp many authors are encouraged to post their works and have other members comment on them, hopefully improving upon the quality of the writing. This is a great system and works wonderfull for everyone.

Bob (Hi Bob! *waves*) goes out of his way to make Pnp have such a welcoming enviroment. (Go Bob!)

I do, however, think that some people crave a more in depth analysis on some of their works. Especially, the stories, as they are usually neglected by many authors (mainly because they take longer to read than poetry, and we all have busy lives).

I am offering a chance for authors to receive a complete and thorough critique of their work. The critique will go through your story, pick it apart, and then judge it on a scale of 1-10 based on the following categories:
~emotion - Do the character react to situations in a believable manner?
~characters - Have you given your characters believable personalities? Do they stick to their personalities/do their personalities change in a realistic way? Do the characters grow from their experiences? Are your characters well-developed and thought out?
~plot - Do you have a well constructed plot? Have you thought it through, or are you just writing as you go? Is your story actually going anywhere, or is it merely fluff? Does your story teach a lesson/evoke a certain emotion?
~writing style - Do you have well constructed sentences? Do you stick in the same person (1st, 2nd, 3rd) the entire time? Do you stick in the tense (past, present, future) the entire time? Do you use correct grammar/spelling? Have you read over your work to make sure that it makes sense?
~idea - Is your idea original/have you taken an old idea and made it your own?
~overall - An overall score
~author - A score based on my personal opinion.

The entire review will be objective (only the "author" score containing my opinion). I will not be nice because "I might hurt your feelings", but I won't be cruel either. These reviews are meant to help you, not hurt you.

I do not claim to be the best writer, or even a particularly good one, but I can give you a professional review that will help to improve your writing.

I do, however, believe that critiques can lower self-esteem and hurt somtimes (I've experienced it) eventhough this isn't the intention. So, I will be taking requests from people who understand that these critiques will be objective. If you write about kitty cats, and I just happen to not like kitty cats, it won't affect my critique in anyway. So don't worry.

If you are interested in having a story reviewed, please e-mail me through Pnp. I will need your name (the name you use on the site), the title of your work, and a link to it. (Preferably a work that's on Pnp). Reviews may take a few days, as they require a lot of thought, and I want to give you the best that I can. Also, remember, even the best story has room for improvement so please think on that while you decide.

I hope I get a few people to volunteer their stories. I think it could be something we all learn from. Maybe some people will even allow their reviews to be posted, so that other authors can view them and learn from them as well.

~Victoria

PLease feel free to critique any of my stories. While most of my stories are meant to be humorous, I could use another opinion. While I like getting positive reviews like anyone else, I also like to know what I could have done to make it better. Giving me points for my work is nice, but I think that the comments I receive are more important than the points. I would rather get a hundred comments with no points than one comment with a hundred points! If you're interested at all, you can go to my author page from here and check out some of my stuff...if you want to.
