Mountains in the distance
by Toni Sweeney (Age: 21)
copyright 05-04-2004

Age Rating: 7 to 127

  Mountains in the distance

In the distance
the mountains dance
like the swaying trees
in the summers breeze

In the distance
the mountains soar
up so high, they fly
like the eagle
in the sky

In the distance
the mountains are jagged
like the ocean's waves
on a windy day

In the distance
the mountains remain
standing high
for all to see.

I would like to thank Joan Jotz for helping me fix up my poem a bit. Thanks Joan. :)
This is the only pic I could find for now with mountains in it. The mountains are kinda hard to see so you have to look hard.

It's strange to think that mountains have movement, but this is how they sometimes appear, depending on how the sunlight is reflecting off them. I live in the foothills of the Canadian Rockies, and they never cease to intrigue and amaze me. They seem to be different every day.
This is an interesting write about your impressions of mountains.

What a beautiful picture you've painted of your mountains, Toni. It's a 3 hour drive from my house to any hills or mountains at all.

"the mountains remain
standing high for all to see". What a excellent piece! I love all you told behind the words.

Hi Toni,
Your re-write is good, the poem flows nicely with the repetition in each stanza.
I think in the 2nd stanza you need a word after mountains....
"In the distance
The mountains rise,
Up so high, they fly
Like the eagle
In the sky"

Just a suggestion. And I can't wait to see the pictures!!!
