Mirror
by Joan Jotz (Age: 54)
copyright 08-14-2004

Age Rating: 7 to 127

Perceive life in its simplest form,
Like feathers in an updraft born.
Where breezes make the trees their fife,
And sunsets regale glorious night.
When azure skies reflect the seas
To mirror life's simplicities,
Where inspiration's pearls are strewn
In tide pools between sea and dune.
Now light and shadow cast a spell,
And truth admits what evenings tell.
Where nature is at last beheld,
Hope, life and love forever meld.
When every breath sips heaven's favor,
Then will tranquility be savored.

I wonder and think, does it really matter if 8 year old and younger really GET it? I think it's important to read to them, and if they love to read... let them! Do they get Dr. Seuss the first time through, or only after multiple readings understand that THE BUTTER BATTLE BOOK is really about nuclear war possibilities and total earthly destruction? Did any of us understand the ILLIAD the first time through? So if this was rated for under 10 year olds to read, I don't think it would do any harm... possibly it may benefit? Well, that's IMHO (in my humble opinion). :-)

Oh, and on reading it through again... I think I'd like to give more praise points. :-)

I can clearly see the influence of the classicists here in this wonderfully constructed piece. It is reminiscent of Shelly or Keats in a way, but also unique unto itself. Anyway, I enjoyed it immensely.

Warm Regards,
Lyle

Ah, the promise and the prose
Writing what the writer knows
Of simpler times and easier dreams
Where no one's hurt and no one screams
I read and read and would not edit
For it reflects a life they way God meant it!

I like this one a lot. It reminds us that the best things in life are free and we can find beauty in the simple things. I like this alot.

Hope, life and love forever meld."
