*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Author's Note: As a freshman, I composed this particular poem for a project on Romeo and Juliet. It was originally intended to be a sonnet, though at the time I wrote it, I had no patience for perfect iambic pentameter. My apologies to Shakespeare!
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Caught unawares by fated love’s swift aim,
Captured within an embrace so tender;
My heart, my soul--forever yours to claim:
Rapture to which I dare not surrender.
Longing each day for your gentle caress;
A mind prisoner within your sweet gaze.
Every thought, every whisper, you possess;
Evermore lost in blissful, wistful daze.
Wishing to see your face in waking dreams,
Amorous murmurs a soft lullaby;
Praying the dawn will never cast its beams,
For I may never wish to breathe goodbye.
Mortal are bodies, yet I think this now:
Timeless is love, eternal is our vow.
