Same Old C...... New Day
by Walter Jones (Age: 62)
copyright 04-17-2004

Age Rating: 10 to 127

Monday, work held no new surprise, same old crap just another day. Door blew open, “when you going to get that door fixed; it is a safety hazard."
Smiled at the union steward.
“What do you want?”
“Took Jack out on a stretcher, heart attack. You better slow down or you will be next. Can’t afford to lose any more of the good guys!”
Closed my eyes and whisper a little prayer. Thanked him for his concern went back to the presser cooker.

What makes a man feel like he must accomplish tasks? Pressure does not come from outside. It is a force that lives inside a man. It is the expectations of self. Drive that is more than need to succeed or meet a requirement. It is the eternal desire to make a difference, to be a cut above, to leave a mark, not just once but everyday you walk the face of this earth. Where do you draw the line? So many doing so much with so little, bullshit. Just not using the tools God gave you to the best of your ability. Motivate self and others, get that last drop of blood.
Do the impossible one more time, failure not acceptable.

“Hello, Jack, how are you doing? Yes, I will finish that report for you, no problem. Take care of your self, say hi to the kids for me.”

Long day, it feels good to headed home,
“Yes, Chris, I will wake you, time travel, quantum, sling shot effect, loss of magnetic core, artificial intelligence based on DNA programs, Chris it is three O’clock in the morning, I know quality time, you are twenty three years old, sure I want to share, get me a cup of coffee.”

“Walt, where were you clock went off twenty minutes ago, did you change the lint filter, move the cars, do you have time for coffee, I’d like to talk to you.”

"Honey, sorry, late for work, I will try to call later."

Tuesday, sunshine pushes my eyes open, short drive to work, guard stops me, Jack passed last night.
Close my eyes, a short prayer, finish report, take a walk in the shop, and look at the many accomplishments.
Go home, change lint filter, call Chris for work, talk to Paul, hug my wife, take a long drive along lake drive, thank God, for all that he has given me.

Intersting story. I know where you are coming from. I have one of the most pointless jobs in the world. Luckily, I am not one of those people who feel they have to accomplish things. I have no real ambitions and no particular desire to complete any specific goals. Some say I need direction in my life and that I need to have goals...i say 'I am free!' I actually pity some of those highly motivated people. All they do is work towards goals and they always strive to out do themselves...a task that leads to frustration and disappointment. I may not have direction in my life, but because of this I have the freedom to actually see the world for what it is...'C'!

This story made me feel sad....no idea why...
All your stories give me weird feelings, some good some bad, but they all hold strong meanings...

Walt, your story is universal. So many people try to be perfect, not just in their jobs, but at home, never taking the time to just stop and be..thankful for all the simple gifts that God has blessed us with. Fantastic write.

This was incredibly depressing and upsetting...but only because I know it to be mostly true. I already recognize this in my own life. I could argue the point about pressure not coming from outside though..lol..I have my own ideas about that. To me, when very young, the pressure is totally from the outside, and that teaches us to pressure ourselves from the inside when we are older. We are trained early on to be perfect, to make ourselves shine above the rest. That is only my opinion, but I had to throw it in..lol.
Awesome write Walt...as always. Thank you for making me think.
Chris

This way you used to write... just really captures the monotony and senselessness of day to day life. Everything is mechanical and automatic, tragedy is just another event... expected alomst. Nobody reacts to what should be unusual. Even emotion between friends and family is suppressed to conform to the rest of our dreary world. Praise to everybody's favorite savior is more out of habit than true feeling. Great twist of writing style!

~Steffie~

btw-... I wonder if anyone would notice if you got up on your desk at work and started to tap dance... O.o
