There was a soft call in the wind as Jack headed up to the house for supper. Some claim that spring opens up your eyes like a clock buried somewhere inside your mind.
Nancy had a rough day with the kids was exhausted. She felt a burst of energy as Jack opened the door. Little gust of the outside burst in just a head of Jack. She planted a wet sloppy one on him. Got a smile from ear to ear.
Kattie pulled on his pants leg. “Up daddy up” gently he placed her on his shoulders and danced around the kitchen like there was not a care in the world. Nancy laughed until she cried.
Patrick was bidding his time; he waited for Jack to sit down. Up on his leg, “horsy, horsy” Jack started pumping his knee up and down, Patrick slapping his leg screams “giddy up, giddy up”
Nancy still with a smile, “Okay, you two, enough, supper time”.
Supper finished, Nancy shouts “time for bed” kids scurry up the steps. Jack right behind.
Story, started, stuffed animals climb make believe limbs that look like arms and legs; kids giggle as Jack tells another wild tale, Nancy looks on until it is time for prayers.
Each family member folds hands, Jack helps with the words, each offers their own final blessing request.
Mom tucks each in, lights go out, Jack lingers just a moment, thanking God for the joys of his life.
Nancy runs a hot tub for Jack. He slides into the water letting the day dissolve in the mist of ripples and lather soap. Jack feels the warm rag as Nancy washes his back. They share a bond with the land and each other.
Jack is dozing off in the tub when he feels the presence of some company, and the wonder of life continues with a little splashing of water and a great deal of spring pleasure shared between a man and a woman.
They say it is only a mental clock, but I think it is the nature of life; a perfect time to allow joy. Both Kattie and Patrick born in November a year apart.
