The Fields of Time

Fields of Time

You have taken me home again
With one sweet spoken word
Your heart reaching out to mine
Over the endless fields of time.

Once we walked the village path
Swam the mill pond deep.
Watched the robin in her nest
Hatch fledglings with her breast.

We sat beneath the cedars tall
Heard the wind whisper, do you recall?
Can you see the school yard there?
No children playing, now it's bare.

All the young have gone away.
Only the ancient come this way.
Trying to remember what they had,
When life was new and ivy-clad.

This was eons ago, it seems.
Was it a memory or just a dream?
Time has marched our life away,
you have taken me home today.

Another beautiful poem filled with such wonderful imagery, love the nostalgic feeling in this as well!

"When life was new and ivy-clad."... wonderful line extracted from a beautiful work. The others have already said it, but I also feel the ennui, the melancholy look at what was. Thank you for this...

This made me feel so wistful. A nice poem, thank you.
