Autumn's Prelude
by Joan Jotz (Age: 54)
copyright 05-06-2004

Age Rating: 7 to 127

Wandering through a topaz sea,
Time lost in golden reverie,
Where wispy stalks of swaying grain
All bow beneath each step's refrain.

The ripeness of the summer air
Entices summer to declare
The fate of days meandering
Among the glades and forest springs.

Along a trail of sweetest grass,
Beyond the shimmering, ochre pass,
The filmy voice of sighing trees
Allures the dancing of the leaves.

Soft shafts of light quilt mossy lanes,
Where lichen rocks lie on display,
And ornament the moldering ground,
Whilst echoing musty, solstice sounds.

The woodlands summon autumn's sway,
While in the holly, whirlwinds play,
And aromatic murmurs tease,
With lofty, pine hushed melodies.

A thrush's song cues fall's intent,
'Mid bursts of garnet vestiment,
Earth's chilling bosom now desires,
The bronze glow of autumnal fire.

Anticipation's pulse inflames
The rite of autumn's mystic reign,
As russet preludes of delight
Accomp'ny summer's mellow flight.

You make Autumn sound so nice. It has never really been my favourite time of year, because it means that Winter is on the way, and if you live in Canada like I do, you know what those winters can be like. You do paint a pretty picture, though. (If only Autumn could be followed by Spring - sigh!!!)

That was to prettily written.
You are so talented, I admire your great writing.
Autumn is my favorite time of year.
Keep up the good work.

Reading this poem reminded me another writer on this site whose work is a magical as yours...Ginger. You just have such a way with words, and a masterful command of the genre. It does have a very Victorian feel to it...kind of like Robert Frost.

If I could only pull a chair up to the porch of this write I would sit for hours.

In my mind I travel through a image and verse created to convey a multitude of messages, the vehicle picked captured me. I have read this at least 10 times, taking as many thoughts away. Extremly well crafted, on every phase of communication. Walt

I will close my eyes and see all you depict... no, all what you paint...
Wonderful picture!
With love,
Ira.

How comfortably Victorian, and how nicely upbeat. I like it.
