True Self
by Leah Garrison (Age: 20)
copyright 04-24-2004

Age Rating: 10 to 127

you are the rhythm of the song I sing
heat emanating from the candle I hold
you are the source of the joy I bring
without you, I’d still be out in the cold

you saved me from myself
when my spirits were sunk so low
took my heart back off the shelf
where I had placed it so long ago

you are the rain on the thirsty ground
sweet darkness flooding over tired eyes
you are the reason my shine was found
without you, I’d be believing lies

you saved me from despair
all things good had abandoned me
no support, too much to bear
things I held dear had stranded me

you are the dock to which my boat is tied
strength conquering all my doubts and fears
you restored the parts of me that died
without you, I’d have drowned in tears

you mean so much to me
more than my emotions alone can feel
exceeding the dreams of any fantasy
because your love is alive and real

I love you.
