seeing pain in your eyes
is a searing iron to my soul
I could never cause you pain
it would be suicide
my gentle touch on your arm
turns to a steel-clawed tiger's paw
if anyone tries to hurt you.
I could never see your head bowed in sorrow
or shame
without my heart shedding
some bloody tears of its own.
it's rather strange,
seeing as you are a man
and I am a girl
that I should support you
instead of vice versa.
but everyone knows when I hurt.
I can cry and complain
scream flames of bitterness
pour out torrents of salty, biting rains
while you cannot.
locked snug and safe in a
wrought-iron castle of masculinity
where no one can see you cry
hiding in the deepest dankest darkest dungeon
or in the tower furthest from humanity
the more you hide
the further the blind worm of melancholy eats away
at your very being.
I search far and wide
halloo and climbing stairs out of breath
it takes a toll on me
to find you sad.
making you happy
makes me happy
makes the world happy
for the sun shines warm
on lovers.
