My Season, My Month
by Sam Hackel-Butt (Age: 19)
copyright 05-30-2004
Contest Winner

Age Rating: 7 to 127

It's the month of sun related pleasures.
Ice cream while walking down the street,
Walking to the bus instead of pestering your parents for a lift, and riding bikes.

It's the month of beauty.
Tree's begin to bud, releasing the aroma of freshness, and waking. Flowers bloom, giving the new grass a lovely added feature.

It's the month of birth.
Baby birds hatch to the sweet scent of pine needles, and mowed grass.
Animals meet their mates, and together, they too enjoy the walks down the street.

The old autumn leaves are swept away, leaving concrete warmed by the sun.
Bushes are finally able to stretch after months of sleeping.
They unravel themselves to the sound of children running up the street.

This is Spring.
This is the month of May.
It's the month of beauty, and romance.
Renewal, scents, open doors, and lunches on the balcony.

It's the month of sticky hands and faces.

This is the season and month I am proud to be born in.

Ironic...I'm reading this in the end of May! I enjoy May too, here in NJ it's cold until May...but you're all the way up in Canada, so I'm sure you can relate! I like your choice of words, and it had a good structure. Not the kind of poem that sticks with you very long, but still a good piece. May is a month of romance in your book? -.- It's been a month of frustration with all the arguing my parents do...then again, since December they pretty much argue once daily so I'm pretty much as immune to it as an aeon is to Silence in FFX. Although I do think I'm playing too much FFX. XD I didn't find any errors here, and I can't even rant about bad capitalization! Good work, keep writing!

Good poem! I really liked it~ Yout toally set me in the mood of Mya where you live. However, May is nothing like that where I live. Where I live, whether in May is usually in the 40's. Farenheit. Not too pleasent. July is my favorite month! =) Love this poem.

Hi Samantha,
This is a good poem, full of images that convey sights, smells, and sounds to the reader.

A couple of spelling mistakes:
automn--> autumn
un-ravel--> unravel
re-newal--> renewal
balcany--> balcony

"Bushes are finally able to stretch..."
Good use of words here, I can almost see it!

A wonderful poem, and enjoy your birthday month!
