Soldiers, rise! Rise and fight!
Let not this terror take its hold!
Extinguish hell with heavens might!
Let not their methods kill our light,
Nor let them make our blood run cold!
Soldiers, rise! Rise and fight!
Stop their torture! Ease our fright!
Save the children evil molds,
Extinguish hell with heavens might!
Soldiers, save us from this blight,
Of pain that's bible age'd old!
Soldiers, rise! Rise and fight!
Before their hold becomes too tight!
Expose the lies the world's been told!
Extinguish hell with heavens might!
Soldiers, on this saddest night,
Realize that their souls they sold!
Soldiers, rise! Rise and fight!
Extinguish hell with heavens might!
~To the brave men and women who fight in Isreal to preserve the holy land, and who refuse to silently walk into the ovens again. May the fight against terrorism, and your fight for freedom, soon be victorious.

One of the finest villanelles I've read in a long time. If you haven't already, look up "Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night" by Dylan Thomas for another excellent example. I've tried a few, but have nothing like your raw power. Excellent. Oh, and try a few of my "regular" poems, if you will. I'd love your feedback!
Good poem, Debra. I'm not sure if how I found what it says is right but I feel it explains clearly what a mix in polotics and religion can cause. Peace, a hard thing to find with polotics, and no easier with religion. If one truly believes they have found peace, though. ^_^ A perfect poem nontheless!
We fight the causes we believe in with whatever weapon we find. I have always striven to paint my pictures with words and fight my battles with the sword of ink and truth. How I pray for the Paradise that God promises. What do we really know of Peace afterall? I'm glad you wish for things to get better as well, as I take from your poem. Thank you for sharing. I was on a plane on 9/11 when it all began and stranded half way across the country. I've posted some of my musings here, on this site; a story THIS BITES, and a poem SILENTLY EERIE. I'd love to know what you think.
Such a powerful poem Debra! And of course a meaningful and crucial theme in today's geo-political world...Lover the way you drive this pointed theme home with deft strokes of your word sword.
