Crying fingers steep in the strings
wailing voice chases the blues away
as tons of love in the last page of hell’s book
felling a doe in the garden of the king’s law
harps will be the knight’s last song
Tempting maiden keeps pace with rhythms
reading soft golden hair laid her down
cups filled to the brim found fast in hay
stray is the last the horse finds in a field
a past stud finds the spring a short mile
Message of war leaves the mother to hide
her son on the field of Troy inside
keep the maiden lying in the bed
last of willing stayed in the last words said
blood flows like a stream mixed with death
Folk singer leads the group to remember
child left in the field to die at a stranger’s hand
the years changed nothing but the tale of life
which of the winners played the harp as gates opened
no one recalls but the voices are caught in the strings

This write makes me think about all the old songs my grandfather used to sing. Wondering if the song was a story of old played to a tune. Very well done.
Wonderful imagery Walter - you always manage to conjur up glorious pictures in my mind with your powerful descriptions. The folk singer appeals to me as a symbol also, since I am sort of a half-baked minstrel in my own right, hence my moniker. This is a great poem, my friend.
