A/N: In honor of my beloved dog, Schatzie, who died two weeks ago. May she rest in peace, and may this poem comfort those who have suffered the loss of a pet. God bless.

Pets' Memories...
When I think of love,
I think of the love a dog has for its master.
Always kind and loyal,
Never going sour.
That love has its limits,
As do our lives,
But love will not die.
It does not die when,
By a tragedy,
They are laid to rest.
It does not end when,
By a tragic twist of fate,
Their lives do.
Instead,
Love moves ever forward.
Like a river,
Running far and wide.
It’s deeper than the ocean,
And higher than the skies above,
Is our pet’s love.
And when their gone,
Do not be sad.
Instead,
Be glad that you had them,
Whether their time was long or short.
And smile because they loved you.
Their only means a new chapter to them,
One full of joy and peace.
Pain and suffering will be long gone,
As far from their minds as the East is to the West,
And they’ll be under the angels’ care.
When our time has come to an end,
And we go to our mansion in the sky,
We’ll see them there, waiting for us,
And they’ll greet us like not a minute’s gone by.
Though now you are grieving,
They are there.
We can’t see them now,
But they are watching over us,
Protecting us.
God and his angels will keep them safe,
Until we return home.
Though our journey there will be long and hard,
Our faithful companions long deceased will wait.
And when we walk through the pearly gates,
They’ll run up and start licking your face,
Wagging their tail,
And beg for you to play with them,
As if in apology for leaving so suddenly.
They want to see you smile,
And want to make you happy.
If heaven doesn’t have dogs,
It won’t be heaven.
Dogs have souls,
Cats do too,
So when they die,
They’ll have to go there,
Since they haven’t sinned,
And are God’s pets.
If heaven doesn’t have dogs and cats,
Then what will heaven be like?
Boring,
Like some books may portray it?
Yes,
We’ll praise God,
But he’d better have the animals there.
Because if I don’t get to see my dogs again,
I’d rather die a thousand times.
My dog was my confident for when I was sad,
And would play with me when I was mad.
Without her here,
A piece has been taken from the puzzle,
And it won’t fit right together anymore.
I’ll miss her and Major,
But I know I’ll get to see them again someday,
And that is what gives me strength.
With that strength,
I can give comfort to those who need it,
And give them a shoulder to cry on.
With that strength,
I can change my ways,
And help out where I’m needed the most.
A dog’s passing symbolizes the closing of one chapter,
But the beginning of a new chapter.
Just like our passing will someday begin a new chapter for us.
Schatzie was a wonderful dog,
As was Major,
And just because they’re not here physically,
Doesn’t mean that they can’t comfort me.
I take refuge in the memory of them,
And it’s like a security blanket.
…If heaven doesn’t have dogs, I’m lodging a complaint.
