Milk & Honey
by Walter Jones (Age: 63)
copyright 07-28-2004

Age Rating: 10 to 127

Can you see me

I am walking

the corner

in your town

Watch me

count the money

as I lay their

body down

I am young

I am lonely

I am lost

I am cheap

You will turn

You mock me

with your husband

I will sleep

Drugs ease my pain

Dollars make my bed

images of youth

still dance in my head

Quiet rivers

morning sunshine

a land far away

This is my milk and honey

Street paved with gold

You are ugly

You are homely

I will take you in

Passion burning

Body screaming

Some will call

this sin

Doctor teacher

even a preacher

many come

my way

Old age haunts me

fewer visits

no children

do I see

But I am still young enough

College doors

swing open

career calls

to me

I am now the nurse or the doctor

setting new souls

on fire

but I am free

I really enjoyed this. For some reason, I get a 'western vibe' from this. However, it is most likely because that is all that's been on my mind lately. Nevertheless, great imagery. You leave room for the reader to decide where the scene is set.

Very well written Walt, this is actually a little haunting if you know what I mean.
