Stay Strong
by Delaney Lindley (Age: 18)
copyright 02-28-2005

Age Rating: 10 to 127

A whisper of cries from a painter's fingers
This hand shall never touch a brush again
"Who cares if the work goes unfinished?
Who cares if I starve?
I have nothing more to give
And I'm not worth anything anymore,
Am I?"

A shattering tear falls from a poet's eyes
This hand shall never touch a pen again
"Who cares if the rhymes aren't there?
Who cares about the truth behind it?
I have nothing more to give
And I'm not worth anything anymore,
Am I?"

A cry escapes a teenager's mouth
This singer shall not sing a lyric
Not one note shall pass by her lips
"Who cares if sales drop?
Who cares if I crash?
It's better to burn out than fade out
I have nothing more to give
And I'm not worth anything anymore,
Am I?"

A sigh escapes an actresses mouth
Not one word shall escape this gaping hole
Where lines have been fed threw
But she's never used her own voice before
"Who cares if I get called a quitter?
Who cares if I'm out on the streets?
I have nothing more to give
And I'm not worth anything anymore,
Am I?"

All of them alike
With so much dispair
Blinded by depression and an obsession
With counting tears
Not one wound will heal
Unless you learn to move on
And so the lesson is:
To all those about to give up,
STAY STRONG.

This is very well written. If you can write poems of this quality at the age of 15, just think of what you will accomplish as you get older.

One small critique: fourth stanza, third line
"Where lines have been fed threw" the word should be 'through'.

*grin*.... *stands tall*... how true! (True that? LOL)

Happiness is where we find it, success where we make it. I like the ideas and imagery here. Thank you for sharing your talent.
