Once Upon A Boy
by Mary -BrytEyz- Ball (Age: 38)
copyright 08-23-2004

Age Rating: 10 to 127

I found and read a site online today
And there was posted a journal
With tidbits of his life

He wrote of many things
that have happened since we'd met,
He wrote of things including happiness
And even bits of strife

Somehow...
I wish I could be something simple
Something - there
... A picture,
...... a post card,
............ a memory

Somehow...
I wish I could give birth
To repeating incessant dreams
And relive those moments hidden in me

I remember a time -
Too short and very sweet -
When an innocent boy took my hand
...and my heart

When we laughed and tickled
...and wrestled on the bed
When he left ...
And how it tore me completely apart

We watched anime and went to the aquarium
To watch the fishes and dolphins at play

I looked for much more that there was
I wonder - Did he ever know...
All he had to do was ask and I'd stay?

We ate while talking and laughing
- Hardly polite, but we didn't care
For once, amidst all the hustle & bustle
- The Windy City wasn't that loud

Driving around downtown that day
I was completely absorbed in his words
While the radio replayed the 80's
- In the distant background

Sometimes when I'm sleeping
I am there ...
The vision is so real I can see,
...I'm there, I can hear
......I'm there, I can almost taste

My heart was beating so quickly,
And my lips?
They quivered in anticipation,
- Fruitlessly ... a waste

I wondered briefly
... what was so wrong with me
That the boy didn't want
... what I so desperately needed

But then I realized - to my womanly dismay,
He WAS just a boy
And desire?
It had not yet properly seeded

So I let him go,
With his innocence in tact
And I resisted the urge
To force my longings on him

We smiled, and hugged,
... and even shook hands
~ My God! ~
I'll never forget going to Chicago
... On a whim!

This deserved to be read over and over, and it got even better with each read! I haven't yet ventured into the kingdom of freestyle much, but I'm thinking I have to go there again, soon. I think I rely too much on rhyming and I need to branch out into other things more.
Thanks for this, it was such a sweet story well told!

BJ :)

Bravo Mary......
I really enjoy the escalation of the story in a format I've not seen, which is a creative plus...it had a way in holding me to each subsequent line, and for this reader, that is
in itself amazing....Hope to read more of your wonderful work......
