Growing Up
by Travis Bauer (Age: 21)
copyright 08-19-2004

Age Rating: 13 to 127

I have come a long way,
From the child I used to be.
There is no way,
That I'd go back.

All the fun and games.
Having my parents take care of me.
Being that innocent little face,
That all the grandparents loved.

Those days were ok,
But they were when I was little.
Now I have new things,
That I look forward to every day.

I've got my girlfriend,
Whom I love ever so much.
To me this seems to be,
The best part of growing up.

I have a job,
As much of a pain as it seems.
It's not the best job,
But hey, I'm not complaining.

I've got all my friends,
Who are always at my side.
Although I don't have many,
I'm happy with what I do have.

Now I'm in the military,
The Army National Guard.
I'm playing my role in the nations defense.
Only...a lot of people think I'm crazy.

And when it comes to the life
Or death situation of Bridget.
I'd be there crying and begging God
To take me before her.

I would be more than willing,
To give my life for Bridget.
And there is absolutely no way,
That I'd let her, or anyone, do that for me.

I think about her a lot now.
Our very first passionate kiss.
Our first slow dance.
I've never felt such love before.

I'm seventeen,
And she's only fifteen.
I have already attempted
Planning our future together.

We'll get out of school.
Get a place on a lakeshore together.
We'll have the most beautiful wedding.
And have two wonderful children.

I guess I've grown up real fast.
Ever since I was seven,
I've been caring for myself and my sister.
It's been this way ever since.

A lot of people wouldn't understand.
Well that's too bad for them.
I've been through Hell and survived.
I've grown and came a long way.
