To my surprise I looked up one day and saw you standing there
Quiet though you were, I saw you, but you did not see me
I’d passed that way many times before
It was always crowded and noisy, and
Something would undoubtedly catch my attention
a whistle, a catcall, some sweet smelling cologne
rustling paper, wacky conversation, a cunning and crafty smile
and still all the while
you were there, I swear
I was blinded, and now I’m reminded
How I stepped on your toes
Rambled on about my woes
And you were there
right under my nose
But now that you’ve got my attention
My name you won’t even mention
And I’m only left to ponder
What could have been.
