Could’ve Been...Lovely
by Misty Montier
copyright 08-25-2004

Age Rating: 13 to 127

To my surprise I looked up one day and saw you standing there
Quiet though you were, I saw you, but you did not see me

I’d passed that way many times before
It was always crowded and noisy, and
Something would undoubtedly catch my attention

a whistle, a catcall, some sweet smelling cologne
rustling paper, wacky conversation, a cunning and crafty smile
and still all the while

you were there, I swear
I was blinded, and now I’m reminded
How I stepped on your toes
Rambled on about my woes
And you were there
right under my nose

But now that you’ve got my attention
My name you won’t even mention
And I’m only left to ponder
What could have been.

Love is hard to capture sometimes and even when you grab hold of it, it can slip away. Very nice job. Thanks for this poem, Anthony

beautiful. Reminds you that things only happen once and need to be taken advantage of.

reflection if memories of a life that has past. Wonderful write, I agree with Joan, the flow of your poem is great.

HI Misty,
I like the pace you set in this poem. Very straigh-forward and real, the reader gets a glimpse of the character's regrets and memories.
Nicely written, smooth read.
Joan
