While passing by a farm one day
A pungent odor wafted by
My youngest son looked o'er my way
with a crinkled nose and squinted eyes
"What's the matter?" I coyly asked
"Oh, but Mom! Can't you even tell?"
With disgust he nodded his head
"Why, what's that hideous smell?"
I explained with sincerity
Exactly what fertilizer is
I tried to quell the laughter in me
and instead planted a gentle kiss
He looked toward where the corn grows
and what he thought, I couldn't tell
With fingers still plugging his nose
He said, "Good thing ears of corn can't smell!"

Youwonmycontestyouwonmycontest! ^-^ Sorry, but I came back to read this again and I just realized I never commented on this! (stupid me =p) Neways, it's obviously a rlly cool childrens poem, and VERY catchy and adoreable! ^-^ (it did win 4 a reason) n_n hehe, write another one like it!! I might even create another funny contest for it! :p (I love funny contests! ^_^;;)
Silly Paula... I only meant that I would like to know how to make it better (and worthy of praise points). :-) As always (and this goes for everyone) if you EVER have any constructive criticism (or other views/opinions)... I'd love it if you shared them. :-) I'm here to be a better poet and I can't do that without all your help. :-) Thanks so much, everyone, for reading.
You're right, I forgot to give praise points, I'm SO sorry.
Thanks for pointing out that out to me, here you go.
Please forgive me, hope I can make it up to you!
Same here! I can't write funny. I too write about serious matters. You did a fantastic job! It reminds me of some of the funny questions my littlest brother asks.
Thanks for reading my poem and commenting. It was quite funny. His father and I laughed for a long time about it, and still do today.
When I first read about the GIGGLR POETRY contest... I couldn't for the life of me think of something funny to write about. I usually write about sad love stuff or very serious matters like rape, abortion, or suicide. Can you believe it took me nearly two weeks to think of something funny to write about?
Well, now that I have, other things keep coming to mind like I'm still in the "Come on, Mary! Think of something funny" mode. One is a story of the day my husband and I met. I'll be posting that as soon as I tweek it some more. :-)
