Salvation from a Drugstore
by Victoria Medley (Age: 20)
copyright 08-31-2004

Age Rating: 13 to 127

My hands shaking violently as they
struggle to open the lid to my
savior.

A simple, plastic tube filled with
tiny miracles that fix all my problems
in one gulp.

A current of electricty coursing through
my veins as the medecine begins to take
effect.

The pounds and pounds melt away with no
effort at all as I go from sixteen down
to size one.

The sleep I used to need no longer is
missed as these messiahs give me what I
need.

The attention that used to wander from lack
of sleep is regained through an effortless
salvation.

I have become pretty, I always have energy,
and my grades have improved drastically,
with no pain.

It is all so easy, just to open up the bottle
and grab one of my little problem solvers and
swallow.

I do not understand what the problem is, why
are people scared? This is not harming, only
helping.

My hands are shaking violently as they
struggle to open the lid to my
salvation.

I am in control, I am taking the pills, they
are not taking me, this I say, all my problems
melt away.

All I need, is one more pill.

Just one more, It's going to pay off in one more spin, Just one more toke and I'll quit. The words that are used to make the effect of control look less strongly attached to us! We are all addicted to things( some drugs, some cigarettes or gambling and some next weeks new shows). We hate to be without our needed things and some cannot be without. This is an important piece, Good job! Thanks, Anthony

The format lends itself nicely to the feeling of being addicted and out of control, despite the remarkably opposite claim by the subject of the poem who seems to think he/she is in control. I'm not sure you intended this, but it creates a neat effect

Very insightful and well written.
In a type of reverse psychology, you have shown that we need only be ourselves to be happy.

Great work,
David

THAT was very good. I can picture teen-agers doing that these days to fit in. Even my days were like that. The thinner, the prettier. I just gave up. I'm not fat, but I'm not skinny either. But I am happy.

*grin* Yes, then who REALLY is control. The lies we tell ourselves in an effort paint the picture differently. Hopefully someone in need will read this. Hopefully it will help. :-)
