Burdens?
by Jack Curson (Age: 32)
copyright 09-08-2004

Age Rating: 10 to 127

The burdens given in life always
Find the pains that are hidden inside.
Being the person you have to be,
That role model
Father,
Husband,
Brother,
Friend,
It can eat at you.
Time spins a web that wraps tight about my life
Can you hear the thunderous beast in my chest,
Excruciatingly expanding upon my mind?
Pendulate pounding strikes the inner parts of me.
Stress creeps around, terrorizing my body,
Waiting for the perfect moment to explode.

No one said life was easy. These are burdens, or better yet, responsibilities we all share. They are only burdens if we let them be.

That beast is me, too, especially when I force myself to be the person I "have to be" instead of just honoring the person "I am."
We may be our labels at different times, but none compare to the essence and mystery of who we simply "are." I think if one honors that person, the roles we take fall into place much more naturally and are really of secondary importance.

And then look out! When you let things well up inside, they can expolde. We have to find some kind of release. Something different for everyone. Thanks, Anthony

Sounds like a normal, every-day problem we all face...the constant stress and demands on us, our day to day, dog-eat-dog existence. You've stressed it very well with emotional intensity and a sort of deparation. Very powerful.

Hello Jack:
To say that your piece is timely is somewhat of an understatement. I'm in my seventh decade and I can attest from experience that the pressures of raising a family (even living life) are greater today, by far. Hence, everyone (I xpect) can relate to your message.
I like the way you structured "Father, etc." I believe it adds impact to the burdens felt.
I feel you've done a nice job on this, sir.

Ah, yes... youth and innocence giving way to responsibility, to life and living it the way we should vs. the way we dreamed. I feel I'm the female version, and press on I must... others expect no less. Explode? Gently... Once in awhile. I send the kids off to slumber parties and curl up with a good book and a cup of hot cocoa! *sigh*
