Lullaby Of The Wind
by Stephen Washam
copyright 01-24-2005

Age Rating: 10 to 127

At night I gaze into the sky
And listen to a lullaby
That floats upon a gentle breeze
And whispers softly through the trees

Peacefully its notes repeat
A melody so clear and sweet
Across the lake and through the glen
Up the hills and back again

The crickets and the hooting owl
Join a lonely coyote’s howl
To add a calming harmony
Upon the flowing symphony

Whistling through the rustling grass
As through the treetops it will pass
Bending branches on the bough
Then lightly dancing o’er my brow

Singing softly sweet and low
Caressing with its cooling flow
As through the window it will sweep
And rock my weary eyes to sleep

And so it is at end of day
I close my eyes and drift away
As Mother Nature softly sends
Her lullaby upon the winds

I remember these sounds from when I was a kid and we lived in the country. Now all I can hear outside are some police sirens and cars going by at all hours! The sounds of nature are very calming. Thanks for the trip down memory lane! Anthony

This poem has such a beautiful lyrical quality to it; very calming and soothing. The flow and the rhythm are excellent, and the rhyme scheme is well done. The imagery is vivid enough to rekindle memories of childhood. This was a very enjoyable read. Thank you for sharing.
