Jane was on her way home when she saw Lucien walk out of Kaitlin's room, a disturbed look on his face.
"Lucien," Jane said, almost joyously. "You're just the man I wanted to see."
Lucien turned to face her, but the expression on his face caught her off guard. She expected him to be impatient with her at the very least. Instead, he appeared to be devestated. "Detective Brown." His voice was trembling.
Jane studied him. "I have some questions to as you about the other night. Seeing how you brought Miss. Smith here, I think it's only fit that you should answer them."
Lucien didn't try to argue with her.
"I had finished questioning her this morning. She verified that you were the one that would have brought her to see me."
"From what she told me, she has a great deal of trust in you."
"That's very reassuring." Jane hesitated. "So, why haven't you told me about it before?"
"I thought you would have figured it out."
"Mr. DeNieux, do you have something to hide? You've made it clear you're not a stalker, and so has she. But I can't shake the feeling that there's something you're not telling me."
Lucien stared at her with a guilty expression as Jane stared at him in a startled manner.
"What is it?" Lucien demanded. "What have I done now?"
"Nothing . . . it's just . . ."
"It's just what, Detective?"
"Your eyes. They're bleeding."
Lucien stared at her for a long moment before he wiped his tears and stared at the blood, frozen stiff. Then he stared at Jane before he turned and quickly ran to the men's room, grateful to be alone.
Jane could only watch as Lucien walk away. Just the sight of the blood streaming down from his eyes was . . . strange. Kaitlin's words rang into her mind: N-not . . . h-human . . .
I knew it, Jane thought. Kaitlin had been talking about Lucien after all.

When Lucien saw that Jane was no longer in the hallway, he sighed with relief. He didn't need to deal with her right now, and he knew after he had allowed her to see what she saw, she would definitely get suspicious.
But he wasn't concerned about that right now. He was more concerned about Kaitlin. Who in the world could have attacked her like that, and why? There was only one other undead creature than himself, and Lucien had killed her centuries ago. Lucien shuddered at the memory of her before he shook his head.
Sighing, he left the hospital, hoping nothing would happen to Kaitlin.

Jane stared at David, who sat at the table. After she had tried to question Lucien, she had decided that the only other source to turn to was David. She had quickly left the hospital before Lucien saw her.
"Well, I finally get to meet the infamous David Kobliski," Jane said with a tone of disgust.
"What do you want?" David demanded with a note of defeat.
"You know what I want."
"If you're asking about what happened with Kaitlin, I already told everyone all there is to know."
"I don't think you're giving the full detail."
"No one would believe me if I did."
"Try me."
David was silent for a moment before he said, "The guy she was with . . . he attacked me."
"After you had assaulted her, I can't say I blame him."
"Well, I wouldn't have admitted up to it if--." David let his sentence trail off, afraid to finish it.
"If what? Did he scare you into it?"
David's silence was all she needed.
"How? How did he do it? Did he threaten you? Beat you into it?"
"It's what he showed me." David gave her a strong look. "He's a vampire. He was about to kill me when she begged him not to do it. Then he gave me an altimatum--to come here and turn myself in, or he would kill me."
Jane stared at him, barely able to believe his words.
