This Moment
by Barry Clopton Lanier (Age: 53)
copyright 10-04-2004

Age Rating: 13 to 127

Struggling to live only in this moment,
Calming my thoughts and emotions, what do I see?
Gradually letting it all go, a glimpse of reality,
I think I finally see me.

A world filled with beauty, joy, and laughter,
All the children with endless dreams.
So maybe, just maybe,
It's not quite as bad as it seems!

There might be no limit to tomorrow,
And how beautiful and fulfilling it can be.
Yet all I have is this moment I'm in,
Calm my fears and anxiety, and turn it over to HIM.

Tomorrow a day full of possibilities,
And the true blessing of friends.
Maybe this moment is as it should be,
Pain so real, yet I know there's an end.

I know somewhere out there,
Resides love and joy, to wash over me.
Should I follow my heart,
As my pain breaks free.

I guess right now my pain has a purpose,
No illusion, yet it to shall fade away.
Maybe I've wandered to far from the real me,
Only to find the real man, destined to stay.

Maybe tomorrow, I'll really learn how to live,
Reside in it's blessing, and learn to forgive.
I know I'm here for some reason,
Other than occupy space, and watch the changing of seasons.

Wandered to far from myself,
Found myself here all alone.
Maybe it's time, precious time,
For this man to now come home.

Barry, There is a hidden beauty in this piece that speaks to all of us as we come to grips with the moment, who and what we are. A time of revelation and at times, fear and uncertainty.

A few of your lines ended with rhymes. I have to admit I like rhyming poetry best. After reading your work, I wondered how it would sound in rhyme.
Thank you for an inspiring read.

This was a beautiful write, Barry. Remember me? Your old friend.. adotped me. Missed you. =) I hope you decide to talk to me sometime. =) Just wanted to know how you've been.. I've been decent. Grown a lot.. matured. Just saw an old comment you left me ages ago, and decided I'd see how you were. Again, beautiful write, as always.

I have not had that same experience but I know of someone close who has. So I have empathy for one who knows the feeling. Great expression in your poem Barry.

A wonderfully philosophy, Barry - wish I could adopt and adhere to it as well. Great expressive poem.

Warm Regards,
Lyle
