Hello Guys,

This is the latest...

They did a CAT Scan and found "something" collected in the bottom of both lungs. They weren't sure if it was liquid, infection, or what. So, they needed Bill to sign and authorize some "invasive" procedure which involved putting a tube down into her lungs, flushing the area with water and sucking it back out. They then are doing a culture on the liquid to discern exactly what it is that's in her lungs. If it's infection, they'll treat with antibiotics. They've removed her wrist restraints as she hasn't had any signs of movements for a couple days. Her fever did go down, but her white blood cell count is up and they think that may be due to the "collection" in her lungs. We'll find out for sure today.

Mom still has not officially regained consciousness, but there are brief periods of time when she opens her eyes, but she's not really focusing on things and her eyes looked glossed over. Once or twice we swear we saw her focus and follow our movements. Once it looked like she even tried to move her lips. Any letters, cards, or anything that comes for her, I read them to her and show her any pictures that have been sent, or gifts. I hold everything up in front of her eyes whenever they're open hoping that she can see them.

Her kidneys are working now and so they are no longer talking about dialisys (sp?), and her fingers and toes are warm which means circulation is good. A great deal of swelling has gone away and her face looks "normal" now...as normal as can be under the circumstances. The doctors and nurses are great there and one nurse took out time of her own to braid Mom's hair for her. It looks great and they're all going above and beyond the call of duty to care for her and make her comfortable.

Bill, Lonnie, Gene, Shirley and I are sticking together and I couldn't be more proud of being part of their family. We used to stick together as kids when someone would pick on us, and now that life's taking it's shot to pick on us...we're sticking together like never before. We're also all taking turns/shifts at the hospital so someone can be there at all times, 24 hours a day. Bill is taking vacation next week so he can be there pretty much all the time. Gene's been stuck in California driving his truck, but will be back by 12:00PM today. I'm very glad.

Lastly, I'm having dinner at my house today at 3:00PM for any family that can make it. I think we all need to just take a breather and get away, even it's only for an hour. Then...we'll all head back up to the hospital again. (Don't worry, someone will be there for Mom while we all eat dinner at my place.)

As soon as I know more, I'll let you all know. Thank you all for your concern and if you have other people's email addresses...can you please forward this to them so they know what's going on as well.

Take care and I love you all.

- BrytEyz

Mary, it's those families who stick together through thick and thin that know what life and love are all about. I hope your mother gets well and will keep her and you in my thoughts and prayers.
Nancy
