To Gird A Lillly
by Barry Clopton Lanier (Age: 52)
copyright 10-10-2004

Age Rating: 13 to 127

Simple words, yes, only words yield unlimitless power,
They cast giant men to the ground, or hurt, even kill.
Or they may, as an legion of angels,
Protect, foster hope, even heal.

Misled they ultimately destroy the spirit,
Evoking endless suffering and fear.
Yet only the same, gives eternal joy,
And with a soft hand, dries bitter tears.

They may divide, even conquer,
While inflicting endless pain.
Or usher in new hope and agappe love,
To many of the same.

Mending hearts, as a soothing balm heals,
Wielded wrong they may cut so deep.
A young heart never hopes, never loves, never feels;

So why not just gird the words as a lilly,
And it shall grow straight.
While an unbridled tongue,
Really has but one fate.

Our words can be used for such good or such evil; what an awesome responsibility.
