In the stillness of the evening as daytime starts to end
There’s a place I go to visit with an old familiar friend
The place is dark and lonely and not many enter here
But I am never all alone I have my good friend near
We sit and share our memories of brighter sunny days
Those times are long since over and now a distant haze
There was a girl that we once knew a long, long time ago
That brightened every evening with her enchanting glow
But now it’s only in my dreams that I can see her face
So that is why I come here to this lonely garden place
In the quietness I’ll be dreaming of a love that has gone by
And here we’ll sit together, just my broken heart and I

I don't know if you visit this site anymore, Stephen, but I wanted you to know that I enjoyed this creation. You always leave wonderful poems for all to enjoy, and never let me down. This is the first I have been back here in about 3 years. Hope to visit more often. I have had a rough road recently going through a divorce after living with the same woman for 36 and 1/2 years. I have healed considerably now and am moving on with my life. Hope to hear back from you.
A beautiful piece of writing.
How we all know the feeling of our hearts near to breaking.
Thank you for this it brought back bitter sweet memories for me.
One thing, I found it a smoother read when I mentally inserted commas in some of the lines. Maybe it's me. I always read poems aloud, if I begin to run out of breath, that's where I would put a break.
However this is just my opinion, it does not detract at all from your poem.

This is a very sweet, beautiful poem, filled with the sadness of heartache and hopelessness. The flow was as close to perfect as I've seen many come, and the imagery was gorgeous. There is barely another work on here that I can say deserves as perfect a score as this.
