IF you look up the word Hero in a dictionary, you'll see one of three things:
1. In mythology and legend, a man, often of divine ancestry, who is endowed with great courage and strength, celebrated for his bold exploits, and favored by the gods.
2. A person noted for feats of courage or nobility of purpose, especially one who has risked or sacrificed his or her life.
3. A person noted for special achievement in a particular field.
Notice how not one of the definitions is included in day-to-day life. Nobody celebrates somebody being a hero simply for getting through the day. Not one of the definition tells you a hero can be someone you look up to like a brother or sister, mother or father.
THINK OF THE WORD "HERO".
What images came to mind? A firefighter rushing into a burning building? A man taking a bullet for another man? Bet not one image in most people's minds came up with the picture of a single mother spending money she doesn't have on something for a child. Bet no one thought of a father who works as a cop simply coming home at night. Or how about a teenage girl witnessing the love of her life leaving her and yet, though she does have her moment of tears, life for her does continue?
So many things are taken for granted, and when you get down to it, yes, it is a real shame. Each of us are heroic, if you catch us at the right time. There's good in all of us. Each of us for one moment or another are capable of reaching the source of inner-strength buried in our soul and we can be the very picture of perfection. There is no flaws is our personality or charactor. We are everything we see in the movies. And most of us just can't see that. So that led me on my own search of what a hero truely was. And what I came to find was my own definition for everyone to take into consideration:
"A hero isn't just someone who saves someone's life, that's just couragous. A hero is someone who saves the moment."
