Doubling a final consonant
by Paula T. (Age: 15)
copyright 10-24-2004

Age Rating: 4 to 127

Rule : Look at the last two letters.
Double the fianl consonant of a one-syllable word before adding er, ed, or, ing, when there is:
1) one vowel before
2) one consonant
Example : run = runner, sit = sitting
Why no doubles for helped, coming, rained?
Note: Drop final e before adding ing.

This is a really good idea! And now I wont get "hoping" and "hopping" confused again. lol, I've made that mistake a few times. It's a very good idea to post these things. :)

This is a good idea! Definatly helpful for beginning writers and a good way to check your writing.
