Hello there.

I have been really exhausted lately and slept a great deal over the weekend. On Saturday we met up at the hospital because the nurse on Friday said we had a meeting with the doctors. However, nobody on Saturday seemed to know anything about it. It was nice to see everyone there at once, though... so that was good.

As far as Mom, there were no real changes until today. Her left hand had a little movement in it. Just twitching a little... but it's more than there has been. And her left leg as well. That's a really good sign. Also, she winced today when we made a loud sound. That's the first time she's done that and the nurse said that's a GREAT thing! Other than that... nothing new.

Her Pneumonia's pretty much gone, her fever is gone, and she's "awake"... or her eyes are open a lot more than they used to be. Her white blood cell count is still high so she's still trying to fight something. We're not sure what though. She's been breathing on her own (lungs) for awhile now, but she still has the tubes in her mouth because they are afraid that she won't be strong enough to keep her airway open. They will do a tracheotomy if they have to...but are postponing it in hopes that it won't be necessary.

The MRI (to my knowledge) still has not been read by the neurologist, or at least the nurses don't know what his take is on it if he has. The last nurse I spoke with said that there were multiple "spots" where damage to the brain was evident, and a couple of them were quite "extensive". Still... the miracle of creation leaves everyone to wait and see what her brain will decide to do or not. The nurse said everyone with brain injuries gets better until they reach a "plateau" ...and everyone's plateau is different. Also, when it seems they've reached it... perhaps there are improvements not noticed by us and maybe they really haven't reached it. So... it's all a guessing game for now. At least she's alive, and at least there are still improvements day to day.

I spoke with Uncle Dennis (Mom's brother) this morning and it was very uplifting to hear from him. He had a great idea... he's going to talk to Mom and record his voice on a cassette tape which he'll send to me and I'll play for her. If anyone else would like to do this, I'll play theirs as well.

I think it's a great idea and I think it will really help as we are pretty positive that she can hear us. I really think she'd like stories about anything in the past, any memories you have with her so it will stimulate her memory and get her brain going. Let's all see what we can come up with, ok?

We got our computer working again so I'll be able to email everyone with regular updates. However, I don't have Microsoft word installed yet and the document that I had everyone's addresses on was on a word document. I'll work on getting that installed within the week. I've just been so busy. In the mean time, BJ, Can you please forward this to everyone so they will have the latest info?

Thank you again, everyone, for the letters etc. They mean a lot.

We're rooting for you and your mother, all of us.
Hang in there, it will be ok in the end.
We here at p-n-p are your family, maybe not biologically, but we all have something in common.
Your p-n-p family is behind you 100%, you have moral support everywhere you look.
Hope everything turns out well, although I know it will.
Take care,
Paula.

Mary, I hope your mother continues to get better on a daily basis.
Nancy
