Hello everyone,

There was a meeting this morning at the hospital with the neurologist. He said that Mom is in a "Vigilant Coma" which means that although her eyes open and there is movement (her right arm moves and her legs at times and her left arm did the other day) they say it's spontaneous and not from conscious movement. Bob and Lonnie said that last night when Lonnie asked Mom to wave bye as he was leaving, she lifted her arm and tried to wave.

I, for one, also know that when I am at her side and ask her to look at me, sometimes she does. But because it's not all the time, they tell us it's involuntary. We'll see. I honestly believe Mom can hear us and that she very well may understand what we're saying as well. At least, like an infant who knows familiar voices as soon as it's born... I am positive our voices are at least familiar and that has to be soothing for her.

They will do the tracheotomy this afternoon at 3:30 PM, and then she'll be in ICU still for 3-7 days at least recovering from that. After that, they will be looking for a long-term facility (or rehab center) for Mom to go to after that. The doctor gave her a 5% chance of recovering to a "productive lifestyle"... which means holding a job, etc. However, the chances for recovery to a lesser state are significantly higher, we just don't know what they are at this point.

He reviewed the MRI and said that there appeared to be an inactive spot in the brain due to a stroke, and that other spots may be due to her diabetes and may have happened prior to this whole incident.

Her weight was 95 Kilograms when she went to the hospital, and went all the way up to 118 Kilograms. Now it's back down to 98 Kilograms so she's almost where she was which is great. All the swelling seems to be gone now, even in her feet and in her left hand. Her face looks like the Mom I've always known and I've been putting lotion on her feet when I visit because they've always had really dry skin.

Well, that's the latest and I'll let you know more as soon as I know.

Take care,

BrytEyz

I still root for you and your mother, keep going strong.
Everything will be fine in the end.
No matter what the doctors say, she DOES understand.
She will be alright in the end. Not texactly the same as she was when she first got here, but she'll still be alright. I can feel it. LOL.
Take care
Paula
