In Flanders fields I laid me down to die
It was for King and Country then, now Why?
In prison camps I languished
I fought through blood and fire
I marched through many countries
Watched many a funeral pyre
In foreign countries lost I friends
Saw them blown to many pieces
Men talk of Peace but War never ends
The soldier always stands undaunted
And when the sacrifice has to be made
It's his body that is wanted.

We had many friends on the Hood when she was sunk.
Seeing the world as it is today one wonders was the
sacrifice worth it.
Seems like a soldier dies, and it's just another day. This reminds me of a poem by Wallace Stevens but I forget the name. But yours is yours, and well written.
I was a soldier in this country's Army and never quite felt that inspired by my then commander and chief Mr. Clinton. What's done is done in this new war but I do believe President Bush has a plan and that in the end we will all benefit from it. Freedom is not free and all the turmoil one has to fight with as a soldier is something that we signed up for. This country provides us with many amazing freedoms that other countries cannot ever grasp. But in the end I don't believe we will see another great generation like my grandfather's made. My grandfather was a fighter pilot and my other grandfather was a Soldier, both in WWII I am proud of them and those who have given lives for what I still believe is a great country.
War is horrible and will be till the ends of time, but life is not as simple as all wish it to be.
I really like this, and I agree with David...the country's name shall not be mentioned. But this was really well written, good write!

-sigh- I am out of cookies...

Ah, yeah, I am speechless at the implications of this poem. We give of ourselves for man and country, to wipe out evil and the men who harbor it. We witness anguish and loss, in lieu of peace and posterity for mankind. Yet once we expire, then what? The body is just a vehicle for our souls to enjoy and experience perils of life and death. Great imagery and wonderful fluidity. Very reflective and moving.
