I Don't Know

Within the still and dark of night
There creeps about a little sprite
He leaves his mark where e’er he’ll go
When he’s been by you’ll always know

Games and toys are strewn around
And dirty dishes can be found
Cookies and candy all are gone
And lights are always left turned on

Dirty clothing is tossed about
A mess is made without a doubt
He will misplace a thing or two
And finding them is up to you

This little imp is very cunning
At times he’ll leave the water running
Or break a knick-knack on a shelf
He really is a naughty elf

His given name is “I don’t know”
By “It wasn’t me” he’ll sometimes go
The children all know him by name
He’s garnered quite a bit of fame

When asked who did these awful things
The same response it always brings
“I don’t know” is named right away
Or “It wasn’t me” sometimes they say

But when the kids have grown and gone
Ole “I don’t know” will soon move on
Then they’ll have kids of their own one day
And “It wasn’t me” will come to play

LOL... your imagination never ceases to amaze me, nor does your ability to master words. This is one that my children will have read to them before bed many a night... I can just tell!
