Drinking Love Song
by Leah Garrison (Age: 20)
copyright 11-22-2004

Age Rating: 16 to 127

No mint juleps for this Southern Peach
And Lord knows I’ve never had Sex on the Beach

No straight vodka, no imported beer
No Mexican tequila cos it means he’s not here

I don’t want whiskey and I don’t like rum
No White Russians cos that’s not where he’s from

I can’t stand kahula, I don’t want any of this
The only drink I want is Straight-Up Richard Kiss

Moonshine is too strong and wine is too bland
Captain Morgan tastes like a mouthful of sand

Martinis always turn out too wet or too dry
Margaritas never fail to make me want to cry

No Cosmopolitan for this average girl
The only thing that Zombies do is make my hair curl

I thought that in this place they’d serve that shot full of bliss –
A crazy little drink called the Straight-Up Richard Kiss

Its funny how two different people can see different things while looking at the same thing. I see this poem to be a happy one. A tribute to the kiss that has you feeling like you were punch drunk so to speek. This is a very nice poem and I loved how you used so many drinks by name. Thanks, Anthony

hmmm... I didn't mean it to be sad, but I suppose it could come off like that... perhaps it is sad. I meant it to be a tongue-in-cheek celebration of my boyfriend's kisses but I can see how it could sound like she's looking for them in a bar after they broke up or something... thank you for the neat perspective on my own poem, that's cool!

That's really sad, but very creative.
I hope this isn't a true story, love broken up always makes me sad. But we go on.
"I through love have learned three things.
Sarrow, sin, and death it brings.
But day by day my heart within
Dares Shame, sarrow death, and sin."
