Why Chinese?

In Korea at school we have to learn chinese characters! I have such a hard time at school because of that. THe reason is while the kids in korea had 6 years of practice I had no years of practice in chinese. And you have to memorise every letter and the meaning. If you write it a little wrong it becomes a totally different word. My mom said that the Korean language is made from chinese characters but I don't even see a reason to learn it when Koreans have their own language!

Well i am understand you very well, see in my school we learn Greek language and ancient Greek (it is totally different languages, the second one is very difficult). It is useless to learn the ancient then we have the neo Greek(Am I right?), and nobody talks on ancient Greek. Everybody says "It is the history of you language Anna you must know it." Who cares!
