Charlie the Little Elf: A Christmas Story
by Jenna T. (Age: 15)
copyright 12-23-2004

Age Rating: 4 to 127

This story is by both my younger sister and I. We hope this puts you in the Holiday spirit! If this seems like a rip off to a story about a little elf please tell me and I'll delete this!

~CHARLIE THE ELF~

A long time ago in the North Pole there lived an elf. His name was Charlie. He worked alone in Santa's workshop. You are probably wondering why. You see, Charlie was not an ordinary elf. There was something different about him. He was very tiny. He was smaller than all the other elves in the North Pole. In fact, he was so tiny, that he was in charge of making the little race-car toys for good little boys who wished for some at Christmas. The big elves would make fun of Charlie and say, "Look at that little elf! He can't fit into a normal elf's costume! He's too small!" But that didn't stop Charlie from working hard for Santa. He tried to ignore it. After all, he had to work as fast as he could, for Christmas was coming!

Soon Christmas had arrived and the elves were running all around stacking sky-high presents into Santa's toy bag on the sleigh. All except for Charlie. He was too tiny to carry a bunch of presents all at once. So he had to polish Rudolph the reindeer's shiny red nose so it could light the way for the big flight. Then it was time for Santa to fly away into the night. "UP, UP, AND AWAY!," Santa shouted. And away they flew! But suddenly, one of the new reindeer, Snowfur, the biggest and the one behind Rudolph, made a strong turn in the wrong direction, which forced the other reindeer to turn too! They sent the bag of toys flying into the air! "Oh no!" cried Santa. What were they to do?

Sanat and the reindeer flew back down and searched for the bag with the elves. Charlie wanted to help, so he searched too. Then he saw something...he looked harder...it was the bag of toys! "Everyone come here quickly!" Charlie shouted---or at least TRIED to shout---in his tiny voice. But Santa Claus heard him over the commotion and called everyone over. The elves gasped. The bag had been able to squeeze tightly into an etremely small hole! "How are we going to get the bag? We're too big" cried an elf. "Charlie can do it", Santa said. The bully elf, Sam, stomped his foot in the snow. "But Santa, Charlie's just a runt! He can't do anything!" he protested. "But he's just the right size to fit in the hole. Go ahead Charlie", Santa said, patting him on the back. Charlie headed fort the hole. He knew this was his chance to be a hero...and save Christmas!

Charlie poked his small head into the hole. It was dark. He could barely see the bag! He tried to reach it but he couldn't. He had to go farther. He squished his body deeper into the hole. Then he finally grabbed the bag! He pulled himself up, still clutching the bag with his small fists. Then he tried to pluck the bag out of the hole. How could he possibly do that? His muscles were too tiny to pull it up alone. He tried numerous times. Just as he felt he could pull no more, he saw a big hand grip the bag and begin to pull...and then another hand...and another! Charlie then realized that the elves were helping him! They puled...and pulled...and then the bag came popping out! They did it with teamwork! The elves put the bag safely into Santa's sleigh. "Hooray for Charlie!" they cheered. Charlie blushed. "Ho, ho, ho! Thank you Charlie!" exclaimed Santa. "You saved Christmas for all the boys and girls around the world!"

After that Christmas, no longer was Charlie the 'runt' elf. The other elves never made fun of him anymore, and he was even able to ride with Santa on his sleigh every year after that! So this Christmas, leave out an extra cookie for little Charlie, and you just might see his tiny figure in the window of your bedroom on Christmas morning!

THE END

A wonderful little Christmas story.
I'm smaller than everybody else in my homeroom (dare I say the whole 6th grade, except for those little geniuses that skipped 3 grades), so I know what little Charlie meant. Gave me Christmas cheer.
Only improve the mistakes that Dania mentioned before anybody else notices.

Oh this is really good! It's a nice Christmas story, I was just in the mood to be brightened up this morning! Before anyone tells you I noticed a couple of spelling errors, in the third paragraph, and the fourth paragraph. The word "Santa" and "pull" were spelled wrong. I just wanted to tell you before anyone else did, because you know how some people are!
