How do you numb yourself to something that hurts so much?
How do you tell yourself it wasn’t worth it and such?
After so much hurt, how do you lift your head up and carry on?
How in all the hours of bleakness, do you ever find the dawn?

How have all the beautiful colors gone, and left my world gray?
What makes you think in endless darkness, you’ll ever find the day?
How could someone you love tear out your very heart?
How do they smile, while your whole world’s torn apart?

How do you avoid they’re enticing laughter, and their cruel eyes?
How can you forgive someone you love, yet despise?
Standing on the edge of forever, and falling into always,
As your feet come out from beneath you, you forget how much pain weighs.

You forget and forget, until there’s only a memory of pain.
And through that memory you know, if only in a small way,
You’ll never be the same.
