It was Christmas time at the daycare
Children ran around, leaving screams in the air
Red and green frosting covered all their lips
Eggnog was in all the cups that they hurriedly sipped
Ten kids too many, and three adults too few
My mind was exploding with all I had to do
Presents to buy and wrap, people to add to the list
All the while I was fighting Burk for the cookie in his fist
Then I heard a cry from behind the tree
Guy was stuck behind there, yelling for me
Olivia was in the potty; Divia was in the trash
Ashlee was cutting her hair; Cody was in the candy stash
My sister in-law was tickling Brooklyn Rae
And I was struggling hard just to find May
But Brooklyn got free, and flung herself in my arms
She tried hard to smile with her little girlish charm
She giggled and giggled and said, “Please save me.”
I said, “From what? You’re already free.”
She gave me a hard look and sat by the door
I asked, “What’s the matter?” she replied, “I’m four.”
True story. It was the only amuseing thing however that happened that day.
