Here's a little bit of information about the Sailor Moon live action tv series for those of you not familiar with it.
It started broadcasting in Japan in October of 2003 and concluded in October of this year I think.
There are 49 episodes, and the story begins much as it did in the anime, but after a few episodes, the story line becomes completely different.
I don't want to ruin any of the plot for anyone who hasn't seen it yet, but I will mention a couple of key differences.
About half way through the series, Luna gains the ability to become human, and as a human she can further transform into Sailor Luna and fight along side the other scouts. If she sneezes as a human, she reverts to becominig a cat again.
Queen Beryl is in it, but for some reason she doesn't seem quite as evil as she is in the anime.
Molly is in it (She goes by the name Naru in Japanese) but Melvin seems not to be in it, though I think there was a guy in a couple of episodes who was kind of Melvinish-it might have been him.
The arcade where Andrew works (his name is Motoki in Japanese) is now a karaoke place instead.
Serena's mom seems quite a bit more crazy in the live action than in the anime.
I don't really want to say anything else about it so I don't ruin it for anyone.
The 49 episodes complete the entire story, and I don't think they will be making any more, although they did recently release a special one hour episode which tells the story of the Scouts four years after the 49 episodes left off.
Unfortunately, it is extremely unlikely that this really well done series will ever be translated into English and released on North American TV. All the episodes I have seen are in Japanese with English subtitles that were done by fans of the show.
You can download the episodes for free at some bittorrent sites, but it will likely take several hours to download one episode.
There is a guy in New York who sells these episodes on DVD for a reasonable price, however, I think it would be inappropriate for me to list the website here.
There are also a few Japanese DVDs of this series available on e-bay, but they are not subtitled and are so extremely expensive that you would be better off just downloading them for free off the internet.
Aparently it is legal to download these episodes since they are not copyrighted in North America. However, I believe that legally, if the series is ever copyrighted to North America, that you are supposed to destroy any copys of the show that you have.
So, that's about it then. I wish you all the best, and I hope that you get to see this amazing series.
