When I see the Spanish moss and mystery
Across the seven-mile bridge,
The crystal clear aqua-marine waters call for me.
As they call for the seaweed and coral
The gliding mantra rays welcome me as they shimmer in
bright trasparency,
Key Largo, you slightest call shall burden my arrival
Compelling waters of blue green hue hypnotize me,
I am yours.......................................
Ah, the hot white and mosquito-y summer of 75'
Clannish Key people welcome my misery,
Houses on quarried grey stone, bamboo tables set with
Conch chowder and lager.
The rosey-pink allure of the conch embodied in my dreams of flamingos, sunsets, and female mysteries
Bogart welcomes me to the table,
Key breezes rustling line upon line of palms.
Gnaw the prawns, sing a song, pummel the crustaceans
Never mind passing the purple hue of lavender snails,
For there is more beauty to behold
"Islas Miradas", shall wait for me,
For tonight I rest my sails, and heed the gates.
Key Largo tonight, perhaps Chart House, then Duncan Street,
North-Easternly buffet my fate for dawn soon comes!
The halcyon late morning where sea lights paint white
houses and memories clean
Tonight the stars gather the dreams poured out on my pillow,
For tomorrow is Key Largo.
The allure of the night announces the fight
Where up from their domain where darkness is held hostage by light,
Come the royalty to hearken the call:
the wahoo, the sailfish, tuna, rockfish, majestic marlin
and ah, dorado simpatico
The grace of your speed, hasty to feed then leave me,
Brilliant purple dorsal, such a delightful morsel.
Your golden reflection and pink flushes speeding away,
Not today.
Out to sea at Key Largo
A Bicycle ride from shore,
Seagulls people watch bide time to steal the bate
The gentle overture of lapping waves roll in reverence,
Small avalanches of brine connfined in time
A hard days work worthy of a rum and coke,
Evening hues settling in dispersing the blue as quicksilver.
The islanders settle down to green waters
disperding 'gainst the shore and Dry Quarters.
Should there ever be an embargo then drive me,
Least Sail Toward Key Largo.
