All I Ever Did was Love You
by Delaney Lindley (Age: 18)
copyright 12-15-2004
Contest Winner

Age Rating: 10 to 127

Why'd you have to go and change?
It seems forever only lasted a few days
The day you left
And pulled away
Was the day I never thought I'd have to say
"I regret this already"

I know we're all in God's hands
We all make mistakes...
And I'm sorry if I was yours

And it hurts to breathe
I don't know what I mean,
After all the promises
I thought I'd never have to cry
Now my sea's a desert
And all the sparrows left to die

I don't know why you hurt me,
Or how you did it by leaving,
Maybe it's the thought that wherever you went,
I couldn't go too

I don't know why you hurt me so,
All I ever did was love you.
The reflection I thought I saw in you
Was never really there
From what I can see,
When I turned to you to see myself
You always left and walked away

And I just can't feel the way that I used to
Things are so strange
What did you do?
But pain doesn't really hurt
When it's all you've ever felt
I'm too afraid to love- hoping you would stay
So broken I never saw you
Chase the past away

And I put on my make up
The face that's gonna get me through the day
It doesn't really matter
If I'm broken inside.

Sometimes there's nothing we can do to make someone stay, and really... we shouldn't try. If they want to leave, they don't belong and it's up to us to get up and go on. We'll never find the love before us if we're always looking behind. I can't put my finger on exactly what... but I really liked this. Thank you for sharing it.

This is so sad, but a reality of life. You should read my poem called "True Love" it talks about love that may not stay. Your work is good and please keep on posting it for all of us to read,we will listen. Thanks, Anthony
