Then You Know Emptiness

  Then You Know Emptiness
Picture Credits:

If you can’t forget her face,
her fragrance haunts your reveries;
if not one pain will time erase,
her laughter kills you in the breeze.

If you toss in agony,
reliving whispers in your sleep;
if the tears just scald your cheeks,
recalling how she breathed.

Then you know emptiness;
then you know death;
then you recognize you’ve lost romance;
realize that there’s no chance.
If you start awake each night,
her ghost a pillow ‘gainst your chest,
then you know emptiness;
then you know death.

If her song can stop your heart,
each note a dagger twisted deep;
if Eternity keeps you apart;
if all her memories make you weep.

Then you know emptiness;
then you know death;
then you recognize you’ve lost romance;
realize that there’s no chance.
If you start awake each night,
her ghost a pillow ‘gainst your chest,
then you know emptiness;
then you know death.

So sad song... and so warm...I know emptiness will go away... and the sunshine come in a sad heart!
Thank you for such a lovely poem!
Irina.

Well expressed lost love and worse! This is something most people can relate to...people of all ages. It touches a deep human emotion - an emotion that's tender and easily enflamed. You've touched upon it with great eloquence..

Love it! This would make a great song. It reminds me of a quote from someone:

"Loneliness is seeing two people kissing on the street or hearing someone someonw say "I love you" and not remember what it felt like."

Great work!

We've all experienced a lost love. You have expressed the feelings so well. I have been married to my current love for almost 33 years. I can't imagine what I would do without her.

I'm sorry that anyone must feel this pain. The story is sad, but very common. You tell it well and I am very glad you wrote this down. Thanks, Anthony
