I Refuse to Become a Memory

Would you ever encase in bronze
A living butterfly?
You might keep it forever, but
You'd never see it fly.

~*~*~

You're leaving now for a far-off land
To which I cannot follow
No more can I take your hand -
But I shan't drown in sorrow

We have a love that will not die
Nor will it fade with time
You promised this, and so did I
With strength of the sublime

But I know you, and all your faults
You've moved many times before
As soon as you leave, feeling halts
Memories, and nothing more

Then your memories begin to fade
As the months roll past
But the promise that I made
In my heart, will last

So right now, that it might not be
I declare my position true -
I refuse to become a memory
Instead, we'll weather it through

For after it all, we can tell our kids
How no obstacle was too daunting
We were calm, didn't flip our lids
When loneliness went haunting

We have something proud and brave
And I can see it through
The road to joy with patience pave -
Are you up to it too?

Very good rhymes. FINALLY! Someone who for once can use the word "shan't" without it sounding dumb or corny. I like this. Good write.

A long-distance relationship is hard. I know, I did it for two years before my wife and I were married. We have now been married for 32 years; the wait was worth it.

Good write.

I agree with Anthony, this shows so much insight and love for another person.
It;s truly just wonderful.
Keep up the good work.

A lot of insight for 16 years old. This is very good. Loss is always hard, if it is to be... Thanks,Anthony
