A Child's Photograph
by Roger Crique (Age: 51)
copyright 09-19-2005

Age Rating: 7 to 127

  A Child's Photograph

Some tears never reach the ground
They’re inconspicuously guised
between a smile and a frown

The semblance of a neglected child
Veiled anguish, relentless torment
mimicking a smile

Inadequate stature
Battered sentiments hidden
trapped in the eyes of youth

Only to surface when adequate
as the scaffold is removed
and the armature takes shape

Like a torrent that turns into a river
emotions can devastate the inner voice
and deplete the fabric that lines the soul

pain is remembered, guarded and feared
thus, the child remains a child
forever cocooned in regrets and anguish

Eventually, the bones lengthen
The pain within fecund
Sanctimonious heights stand

A house of fraud and fear erects
Physical pain, a fleeting memory
A scar much too deep to heal

Love is essential to the child
Honor your contract
Take notice

for a time with your child is precious
Love and cherish this time
And to his child he’ll be gracious

I really like this one. It really pains me when I hear of a child who is neglected or abused. And a child, when grown, will act how it is taught to act, so begins a vicious circle, which in some cases turns deadly. An innocent child, who knows only of what it is surrounded by, should be loved, hugged, and taught, not belittled, humiliated, and beaten. It just makes me want to cry. I hear of a two year old dying at the hands of a parent, and I think about my two year old grandson. There are some adults out there who are in desperate need of help, but don't even know it. Thank you for this thought-evoking poem.

From time and culture future is the child born. In the bond that exists a palace lives in hearts forever. To lose that feel is the sin of life. A good reminder. Before it is to late, contract, no just love...Walt
