Grandma Remembered
by David Pekrul
copyright 01-20-2005

Age Rating: 7 to 127

“Hey Gramma, Gramma look at me, I’m riding on a horse”,
My Grandma waved and smiled and she remembered.
The first time it was just a horse, the next a horse and cart,
My Grandma cheered me on,
And she remembered.

Excitement always filled the air each time I saddled up,
I’d ride those country roads from noon ‘til dusk,
And when at home I told of the adventures of my day,
My Grandma shed a tear,
And she remembered.

For Grandma always rode a horse when she was just a girl,
She’d ride and jump them at the county fairs,
And then when she got old and couldn’t ride just like before,
She’d live her life through me,
And she remembered.

My Grandma’s gone to heaven now; I miss her every day,
But each time when I ride those country roads,
I think of her encouragement and I feel her constant love,
I ride those roads for her,
And I remember.

This poem has such vivid imagery and strong story line. I loved the way the author used the "remembering" theme repeatively. It is such a blessing to have such warm and wonderful memories of your Grandmother. Keep up the good work.

And such fond memories they are! This makes me remember riding on the back of my granddads Harley! He has moved upstairs also. Thanks, Anthony
