The Shadow
by Roger Crique (Age: 51)
copyright 08-26-2005

Age Rating: 7 to 127

It follows behind me,
not letting up.
Always a part of me,
keeps getting up.

Why must you follow?
Why are you there?
Can't seem to leave me.
My patience you dare.

It follows behind me,
hurrying its pace.
Always alert,
and ready to race.

It pops everywhere.
unless I'm alone,
And that's when I realize
with the sun it has gone.

Shadows have for fun you know. When the sun goes down and moon comes out to play. Shadows of stuff that you saw in the day. My shadow is not annoying it is my faithful friend. She has been there from the beginning through think and thin. When no one else would follow me she has stayed by my side. And in her all my secrets I confide. She never asks me why, never tells me no, she justs goes wherever I do, because she loves me so.

I'm not sure if you were writing this just to write it because at first i didn't think it was a very good poem. But the second time i read it, the last part really hit me because it's like the shadow represents evil and we always want it to go away but there has to be a balance of good and evil, so the only way the shadow can disappear is if there's no sunlight either.

That is the beauty of poetry, for it can mean so many things and different to all that read. One's perceptions are generated by their own life experiences and that's why we see things differently. This is very thought provoking and a pleasure to read. Well done! Anthony

Where did I read it, something like: "When we see a shadow, we know the sun is shining". Shadows can be good things in our lives, showing us that we may be having problems, but the sun is just around the corner.
This is a poem that can be read by children and adults alike, each making their own interpretations.
