Best Words, Best Order: Essays on Poetry, is an excellent book of essays by Stephen Dobyns. The first few chapters give excellent advice on the use of metaphor, pacing, meter, rhyme and tone. The rest deals with comments on some of the author's favorite poets. It is also a wonderful celebration of the value and necessity of art in general. It is perhaps not for the very early novice but I highly recommend it. You will want to keep writing!

Hmm... I'll have to check it out. I did read "Chicken Soup For The Author's Soul"... and I don't care what anyone else said... it was very entertaining, moving and "muse"-ing! I'll let you know what I think of this book once I have a chance to read it. Thank you for suggesting it.
I read this article and looked up the book on Amazon. It had really good reviews, so I ordered it and it finally arrived a couple of days ago. So far I haven't had the time to really study it but the little I have previewed is very interesting. I can't wait to delve into it more deeply...Thank you for writing about it here!
