Noises In My Head
by David Pekrul
copyright 02-07-2005

Age Rating: 10 to 127

The noise is all around you,
But you're not able to hear,
The thoughts and visions, dreams and plans,
That my heart holds so dear.

My mind is such a noisy place,
It's busy all the time,
It's wanting you to share its dreams,
And make them yours and mine.

At times I think, "I'll run away",
At times I think, "I'll stay",
But you will never know the truth,
It will always be this way.

Why don't you get to know me,
Try to get inside my head?
Instead you wander through my life,
Never hearing what is said.

It's just as if I don't exist,
I'm not within your vision,
I'm wanting you to listen in,
And free me from this prison.

For I have dreams to share with you,
But you don't have the time,
You say that you must hurry on,
And I will be just fine.

So now I live in torment,
And the noises jeer and mock,
I live alone inside my head;
Lord have mercy; make them stop.

The buddhists call this "monkey mind" with the only solution being nonjudgemental awareness. The poem's nice, but I like some of your other works which have a bit more imagery or narrative elements-- of course this is just my own personal preference or style which you probably know of me by now.
